Douglas McCall has been successfully directing and
teaching music ensembles for the past 18 years in
schools at all levels in South Florida as well as
Michigan. Before accepting the position as Choral
Director at Mays Middle School Center for the Visual
& Performing Arts this year, his distinctive
conducting performances include a conducting 150-voice
choir that toured Europe, an 80-voice choir who
sang Handel’s Messiah, ensembles that performed
at Walt Disney World, State Teacher’s Convention
and a Children’s Television Program. His music
ensembles have merited numerous Superior, First
Place, and Grand Champion Awards at National Competitions
including Musicfest Orlando, Orlando Festival of
Music, and The Busch Gardens Classic. His groups
have amassed numerous Superior and First Place Awards
at State Music festivals including Florida Vocal
Association, Florida Association of Christian Colleges
and Schools, and Association of Christian Schools
International. They have also earned superior and
First Place Awards at District and Local Music Festivals
including Jr. Orange Bowl Caroling Competitions
and Florida Vocal Association. His students have
been perennial leaders in earning seats in the Florida
All-State Choirs, many of whom have earned college
scholarships.
After earning college scholarships in piano at Bob
Jones University and Miami-Dade College, Mr. McCall
received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity
International University. He then continued his
music education at Florida International University
where he earned a Master of Music degree in Choral
Conducting. Mr. McCall lives with his two children,
Randall age 11 and Emily age 8.
